Welcome back to the Happy Healthy Hustle Podcast

This week’s topic is: How to nourish and not judge with food labels

I am so excited to be back for today’s episode where I will be sharing how to embrace food labels without judging foods as “good” and “bad.” Read a bit more about me here.

Listen in as I I delve into the world of food labeling and explore the need for a shift in our perception of food as either “good” or “bad.  I explore how focusing on the nutritional value, ingredients, and personal preferences promotes a more positive and inclusive food culture.

In our family, we don't count calories. And I also think that's something that will not make your life very enjoyable. It will probably make your life pretty miserable.

Here are the three main takeaways from this episode:

1. Informed Decision with Food Labels

I emphasize the importance of food labels in helping consumers make informed decisions about the foods they purchase and consume. By studying food labels, individuals can gain valuable information about the ingredients, nutritional value, serving sizes, potential allergens, and added sugars in their food products. This allows them to make choices that align with their health and dietary needs.

2. Avoid Negative Labeling

In this episode, I discourage the use of negative labels such as “good” or “bad” when describing foods. I stress that this type of labeling can create a culture of shame and guilt around eating, particularly detrimental for teenagers and individuals with disordered eating habits. Instead, I advocates for a more positive approach, focusing on balance, variety, and moderation.

3. Celebrate Food Diversity

I encourages you to celebrate the diversity of foods and culinary traditions from different cultures. I emphasize the importance of respecting and learning about all types of foods, avoiding stereotypes or biases, and embracing curiosity when exploring new food items. This approach promotes a healthy, balanced attitude towards eating and expands individuals’ culinary experiences.
